Wenger has cheekily commented that he is going to the Euros with an open cheque book. Since when did Wenger’s scouting network start relying on the player performances in a big tournament, and pick them based on that? I always thought the scouting network was good enough for Arsenal to be able to identify and buy players before a big tournament starts and their value shoots up unrealistically due to the big tournament performances.
Wenger has said he would be excited to see how Modric performs. That makes me think, most Gooners say, if Wenger doesn’t buy someone, he probably wasn’t good enough. Modric had been linked with Arsenal since we bought Eduardo, the saga continued all year round. At the end of the season we find out that Modric has been signed by the arch rivals Tottenham. We could probably take shelter under the rhetoric that, Wenger felt he wasn’t good enough for us. However, even that myth is broken, when Wenger while leaving to watch the Euros predicts him to be one of the players to watch. So, Modric is one of the best as per Wenger, but he did nothing to sign him, and Spurs who are deemed to be a smaller and less ambitious club are able to buy. On top of that, at the end of season Wenger says, we are looking for a creative player with the touted names being Nasri and Ben Arfa. Isn’t Modric a similar creative player? Would the price difference have been too much? Wouldn’t he be a much better player to buy, given his chemistry at International level with Eduardo? I for one feel Wenger made a mistake there.
Another aspect of note (though not much concern just yet) is that Spurs have already signed two players Modric and Dos Santos (not just final as yet), while Arsenal despite saying some early signings would be happening have signed zilch. The Nasri deal has gone on for far too long for anyone’s liking. I have immense respect for Juande Ramos; he has much better pedigree then Martin Jol. The kind of signings he has made till now (Woodgate and Modric) are taking them in the right direction. I hope that at the end of the summer all my worries are taken care of.
Rest, had a look at the Euro matches yesterday. Senderos looked good and Swiss deserved a lot more than they got in the match. Dordeyk didn’t get much time to show his prowess, there were rumours we might be interested in him. Let’s see if he gets more game time, which should be a possibility after Frei’s injury. In the other game, the central defender Pepe managed to put the ball in the net twice (was correctly ruled out offside once though) and the central striker could only manage two hits on the framework of the goal. The results went without any upsets…wish that’s not the case for the whole of the Euros.

You need to trust Wenger. He showed last seaon his judgement is still as sound as ever. More important, if you are any sort of Arsenal fan why are you concerned by the scummers from WHite Hart Lane? Their skill in the transfer market was exemplified by the masterstroke which bought Darren (I’m) Bent to the club for nearly 17 million. Nuff said!
i have seen lot of both modric and nasri. nasri is a better player, and if i was to sign one of them i pick nasri
wer gonna sign nasri villa yaya toure and mayb zapata
@Claude – I trust Wenger, but passing Modric doesnt go down well with me, maybe with time I would be proved wrong. Bent was bought under Jol, Ramos is different…agreed Arsenal is better, but then I would be wary of Ramos.
@Predrag – Probably you are right…will wait and watch
@Jim
Nasri – Hopefully, Villa – No way, Toure – I am not sure if he suits EPL, Zapata – As per the media quoted price is too costly, Micah Richards would probably cost the same.
nothing good is ever going to happen but if v compare our interests with douches(totenham) v r obviously better. v r getting nasri while they r getting santos(nasri is obviously better)so what if they have modric thats not going to make them better than arse not in a million yrs!!!
I don’t think Wenger should be concentrating on the Euros. He should be focussing on signing the players not featuring in the competition such as Touré, Zap Zap and Micah Richards lol. A mistake that Le Prof seems to make each season is signing players in the last days of August, when the season has already started (maybe that’s why he says it takes 6 months for players to adapt in England). So we shouldn’t try to sign any of the Nasris, Ben Arfas or Villas til the end of their respecive countries’ tournaments.
harris…Nasri is better then Santos…but is he better then Modric? Especially when Modric already works well with one of the strikers at the international scene. I also find strange that Wenger is spending time watching the Euros…thought he should be going about and trying to secure his targets who are not at the euros…
u guys complain………………!!!!

Let’s wait and see what surprises Le Bos is goin to give us.
arsenal dont need to sign anyone we are great as it is as long as we dont have too many injuries
we would of won this year if eduardo rosicky rvp would have been fit
Good article mate. I think your right about Ramos and the worrying thing is i cant see his signings becoming the usual spurs flop but fingers crossed they r. lets hope all this dawdling by wenger doesnt cost us losing to many class players.
Arsenal need to sign a CB and Flamini’s replacement…Hleb is looking likely to leave so someone is needed there too…and hoping Van Persie will stay injury free…is asking for way too much
I respect Wenger, he has just sent you and the rest of the media to the Euros whilst he is busy concluding his targets, at a reasonable price. I think thast if you want to know who he is goping to sign then follow Ken Friar, not Wenger. That was a decoy.
do you guys believe wenger is at the u euros?
4 how long have you supported arsenal again?
if he goes there he’s just watching nasri.outside that, you better be following the scouts because that man is making some serious calls from there while friar is doing the talking.
Wow modric scored a penalty he must be the best player in the world.
Nasri is twice the player modric is and will cost 4m less obviously another bit of bad business by arsene there.
Good One dickhead.
hello this is to vent my frasration at wenger again because he tends to think that he knows it all but he is pulling arsenal down to the dogs and believe me you when we are down there in relegation coz tottenham is replacing us believe me wenger will leave the club and go to france.(PSG) so why not fire him now and bring a sensible manager who knows what arsenal need s
You have to do something!
