Spain were simply amazing yesterday in the Euros. Torres was good, but Villa was better. His movement and clinical finishing was simply breathtaking. Arsenal fans would have been encouraged by Villa’s third goal in which Fabregas was the provider. They would be salivating at the prospect of watching that week in week out provided the much vaunted striker does end up at Arsenal. Though that is a prospect which seems more unlikely now than ever before. He was already a bit costly for Wenger’s liking; on top of that he is performing superbly at the Euros, which will hike his value like anything. Speaking of our very own Spanish hero, he did not start but did well in the time he got on the pitch. What more can you ask from a midfield sub? He scored a goal and got an assist, essentially being actively involved in both the goals scored by his team while he was on the pitch. I was a bit surprised when Fabregas replaced Torres. As per me, the best attacking combination for the Spanish would be Fabregas providing and Torres finishing, and here I was watching one replace the other. Fabregas played much further up on the pitch then he usually plays at club level and did some excellent work, though he was found out in one instance when his lack of speed made sure that the keeper managed to collect the through pass before he could reach it. This made me think, whether playing Fabregas in the same position for Arsenal would be a good idea in a 4-5-1. During the current season Hleb was the one who got that spot, though he did well, I get the feeling that playing Fabregas there could help us achieve much better results. With Adebayor up front and Walcott to run up from the wings, he could really do a lot of damage. On top of that, we could have Diaby or Denilson with Gilberto behind him in the central midfield. This would give some valuable experience to the younger two, and allow Gilberto to cover at the back and not run too much. Apart from the lovely attack displayed by Spain, their defense was distinctly bad. Puyol did the only thing he does best, last ditch tackling. Sergio Ramos was uncharacteristically poor and had a torrid time. If the Russian attacking force was half as good as the Spanish one, we would have definitely seen a score line of 4-3. The Russians inexplicably lost focus every time they had the ball in or around the Spanish goal. I didn’t know Arshavin would be suspended for this game, he could have made some difference, hope he is back for the rest of the group games. The Sweden and Greece game almost made me go to sleep, what with Greece persisting with the policy that surprisingly won them the title last time around. It took a moment of brilliance from the most inconsistent (immensely talented) striker we may ever see. It was amusing to know that the last time Zlatan had scored for the national team was 3 years back. I get a feeling that despite his age Henrik Larsson makes Zlatan’s life a lot easier. On top of that, we seemed to be watching the Ljunberg of old, I wonder what the West Ham fans might be making of that. If Zlatan can be a bit consistent, he should be able to take them to the second round; else Russia may have the last laugh. As far as the groups are concerned, only the Dutch group seems exciting for now, rest of the Euros would come live only in the second round.
Coming to the main point of this blog; the Spanish side had a typically shortish winger named David Silva, who seemed much like our very own Rosicky. Not only did he move infield, he was creative and on top of that pretty tenacious too. He provided something different to a midfield full of central midfielders in Xavi, Iniesta, Fabregas and Senna. Agreed, Villa was the star of the day, but Silva showed enough qualities to stake for a starting place in any of the top clubs. He too is in a similar situation to Villa at Valencia, and might not be that expensive. I am not sure whether the Nasri deal will happen or not, but definitely Silva is a quality player in an area where Arsenal are found wanting, something we cannot say about David Villa. There is no doubting the quality of Villa, but with Adebayor, Van Persie and Bendtner already there and Walcott, Eduardo and Vela on their way, I don’t think we need a striker, however good he may be. But a winger like David Silva is almost exactly what we need.

Definetly Silva would be a quality signing and give us a lot more width then i think Nasri would. With Valencia looking to sell then i definetly think getting him would sort out all our attacking options and we can then focus on getting that elusive quality centre back in.
As far as i am concerned Adebayor will not beable to repeat the form he showed last season. I honestly belive it was a luky season for him.
With the success of Fernando Torres i belive David Villa will be a remarkable signing and with Fabregas behind him there is a potential that he will perform far better than fernand torres.
Finally with in terms of scorin rates David Villa has been better than torres. Its best Adebayor is sold now and the money gotten used to purchase David Villa because if Adebayor does not perform as good next season nobody will be willing to pay that much for him……….
I dont feel Adebayor’s goals were fluke. The numerous chances created, made sure he got that tally. I feel that would be repeated next year. Selling Adebayor would be a good idea only if Bendtner is supposed to be good enough. Neither Villa nor Van Persie are Adebayor type, they cannot povide what Adebayor gives. Villa can finish chances, but wont be able to provide the physical threat, tireless running and the height which Adebayor gives. But then again, if Adebayor can be sold for 40 M Euros (32M Pounds) then it should be a good bit of business.
we shud buy villa nasri yaya toure and a center defender
i was reading setanta sports and came across an article where basically wenger responded to the earlia rumors about Vincent Kompany. Wenger has ‘apparantly’ stated that he will NOT be strengthening the defense. now i am i big fan of Le Boss and i put all my faith in him but statements like… (“I have known Kompany for a long time, since he was 16, I keep following him but the story that we want him for next season is wrong. I know him to be very, very good but I have decided that defenders are no longer necessarily needed for next season. Therefore, he will not come”)… its these kind of words from wenger that really irritate me. He has known about kompany for lets say 6 years and he has never put a bid in for him, instead he buys players like senderos! why??? sorry if i seem disheartened its just i was looking forward to seeing nasri in a arsenal shirt (as im sure most of you were) i was looking forwad to the HUGE TALENT rather than huge players comming in at arsenal, but now i really cant see nasri at the emirates next season or any other MAYJOR signing. why didnt we go for dos santos??? why not put a bid in for yaya toure??? and with this english quota being talked about im also worried for the future of our club. micah richards needs to be brought!!! sadly looking around the premier league he is probably the only english player with the ‘arsenal’ pedigree thats still at a smaller club, he would cost the earth but in the end he would have been worth it dont you agree?….oh and one more thing do you think Le Boss should put a bid in for athletico forward Sergio Anguero???
“we don’t need any more defenders”… Arsene Wenger today.
ha! you read the same report as me – we have to assume he’s joking right?
I really wish, he is either joking or trying to fool the press…if it’s true…then I would be a lot more uneasy as an Arsenal fan…
@Gunner13 – I can understnd your frustration, and kind of feel a bit of the same. However, Wenger doesnt buy a player right away, in most cases he watches them for years and years before he makes a bid. As for the English quota, we should be covered for now, was planning to write today on that only, but then postponed it for some other day.
Toure, does not seem to suit EPL to me. The only stumbling block for Richards is the cost…
In such times, all I do is take it easy and wait to see how things actually turn out. Patience is a very good virtue.
i read all the arsenal news! http://www.goonernews.com is amazin hehe
p.s villa, nasri, richards, and another keeper all in next season plz mr wenger for once tell the board ‘who are tighter than two cotes of paint’ that u want cash!!
Ilove to see David Silva more than David Villa
Also, Aguero is great, but he would cost a bomb, and with the likes of Van Persie already there, and Walcott and Vela on the way, is Aguero really needed?
sukan i ges ur right, TRUST IN WENGER and he shall provide the solutions to win us the silverwere next season.
Terenshay. I read your patter twice to see if I could disagree with a single word……….I couldn’t!!
villa would be better because he is garunteed to score goals and im not sure if ade goals were a 1 off along with nasri who looks superb a holding midfielder maybe yaya toure and a centreback like richards.
But according to setanta sports wenger was quoted as saying defence isn’t the priority. Quite frankly IT IS!!
Time to spend the money on a few proven class players to compete in europe and domestically. Come on Wenger work your magic.
Two reasons we did not win the premieship last season………1: we were very unlucky with the injuriees to van, rosicky and eduardo at a crucial time.2)our defence was poor.gallas was awful, when toure went to africa cup of nations, he came back tired after the injury he did not recover .we also lost our rock sagna at a very very very crucial time……..sendoros,i dont trust him…….I trust wenger but we desparately need a proper defender to cover for william or toure. Not senderos or joure
The problem with Ade is that he misses too many good chances we create and with a more clinical striker we could easily win more games by not just the odd goal. An Adebayor/Villa would work well, let Ade be the target man and do all the donkey work while Villa slots them home.
In my opinion get rid of Bendtner and bring in Villa.
ARSENAL ARE SHIT AND ARE NOT GONNA WIN ANYTHING FOR DECADES TO COME.
STONE!!!! are you mixing your ass with your brains, stop thinking with your ass, while leaving your brains brand new, thats a bad omen. Arsenal will rule as from next season, just watch out.
To all my gooner friends, pls somebody should please talk to Le Boss, we really need a central diffender, atleast to cover the loss of Flamini, at the defensive midfield. then Villa would be a good buy. In stead of Yaya toure, let get a strong Defensive midfielder, Gilberto is over.
So i think this formular will work:
Arsenal FC(- Lehman,Flamini,Hleb) + Vela,Nasri,Villa,Ramsey,Richards, a a goal keeper)= A Successful ARSENAL FC.
I think Arsenal need a good and decent defensive midfielder, Aston Villa player Gareth Barry will be a good choice for Flamini replacement.
arsenal should by Obafemi Martins, david silva and raul abiol, Felipe Melo! :-
Obafemi Martins – £14M Age 23
David Silva – £20M Age 22
Raul abiol – £15M Age 22
Felipe Melo – £17 M Age 25
If possible Zapata £10M (that will make total £76 pound but will be worth while)
Total – £66M
Out
Adebayor – £19M Age 25
Bendtner – £9M Age 22
Senderos – £6M Age 23
Diaby – £6M Age 23
Song – £5M Age 21
Total £45M
Alot of you must think their alot of stars and expensive hopefully arsenal can buy them and be more successful, superpower, their will be more players and more fighting for places!!
it will be like man utd youth – legend mix!!!
Arsenal line up
Almunia
Sagna/Eboue Toure/Zapata Gallas/Raul abiol Clichy/Gibbs
Nasri/Arshavin Fabregas/Ramsey Melo/Denilson Silva/Vela
Van Persie/Walcott
Eduardo/Martins
and add brazilian youth goal keeper ramon 19 yr old bad boy keeper!!!
